Description
This first section of the book looks at scales, including major / minor, pentatonic, whole tone, diminished, and modal scale formations. I have always enjoyed playing scales, as regular practice helps keep the hand exercised and also retains the scale memory. Of course, all melodies / solo’s are made up entirely of scales and fragments of scales and chordal notes. Understanding scales and their use will really take away a lot of the mystery of defining or recognizing a particular melody or riff. Understanding what is going on musically is much easier to define when you are aware of the chordal progression being played. Applying the appropriate scale patterns creates a methodical and musical melody.
