Description

This book responds to a need identified by the authors for a practical, concise, and up-to-date resource for both beginning science teachers and experienced science teachers wishing to enhance their practice. We found that the books available were not aligned closely enough with present science curricula, and we thought that writing our own science methods book would be a way to address this gap. Our priority was to produce a user-friendly resource containing research-based strategies for implementing scientific literacy in the classroom, from elementary through senior high level. The book is organized along fairly conventional lines, with chapters on the science curriculum, learning, classroom management, teaching strategies, and assessment. However, the approach taken departs from the conventional in its attempt to embody key principles of science curriculum and assessment, notably alignment of the resource with mandated science learning outcomes, and the use of a broad-based approach.
