Mark Amyotte, born at the beginning of the Great Depression, grew up under the control of a strict, abusive father. At the age of fifteen, Mark ran away, determined to take control of his own life; finding work in the depths of the cold, dark hard rock mines; learning English as he went along. He was like a sponge, wanting to learn, absorbing everything he could. Without realizing it, Mark’s life turned into a true adventure. Having worked in four different countries; meeting many colorful characters along the way; being offered a piece of fresh seal heart in Rankin Inlet to fighting a ghost in Haiti. Mark is a retired miner, hoisting engineer, and camp chef. It had been Mark’s dream to write his life story and let people know of the many hardships and adventures in his lifetime. He enjoys his retirement with his wife, Kathy. Kathy Amyotte is a first time writer, artist, and it was her wish to see Mark’s dream come true. And in the words of her husband, she says,
