This book is based on the memories of Walter Dashley McPherson, who recorded them during the 1970s. They were trancribed from the original recordings to paper by his secretary (probably Jean Schiller, who worked for him from at least the 1960s until his retirement). Walter’s niece, Mildred Lynn Paskind, undertook the first rough edit of the manuscript, moving it closer to publishable material. Mildred passed away on October 25, 2013, before the book was completed. Walter’s son, Robert A. McPherson, had shouldered the responsibility for seeing that his dad’s book became a reality prior to Mildred’s death. He praised Mildred’s initial work on the manuscript and expressed his gratitude for the many family photographs Mildred provided. Without her desire to see Walter’s book in print and her work toward that end, the process would undoubtedly have taken much longer. Certain photographs are reprinted with permission. We wish to express our thanks to the Longhorn Museum in Pleasanton, Texas, and to Rodney Adams, son of Clarence S. Adams, publisher of the Old Timers Review, for permission to use their photographs.
