They sat there and argued all night. They had met before, but tonight seemed to be an ultimate clashing of wills. I am speaking of my sister and my husband’s best friend’s wife. It was only their second meeting, and they already hated each other. They met first on our back deck, with their 2 children: Maria, my sister with her son, and Deb with her daughter. Deb asked Maria if she worked outside of the home. When Maria answered yes, Deb answered with an insolent, “Oh.” The response was accompanied with a swift scowl.
