In “olden days” it has been said that the final question a prospective minister was given during his interview was “and does your wife play the piano?” Sometimes a positive answer meant that the applicant would be their next minister! I grew up with a similar attitude, ministers were male, minister’s wives their personal support – but appreciated if these women became an active part of their husband’s ministry! My writing is therefore an effort to trace my journey from “Daddy’s girl” to a minister’s wife, and finally, I trust, to a lay woman with a valid ministry. A ministry that DID include playing the piano.
