Description
This came about through Ann’s work with the Roman Catholic padre (priest) who was attached to the Regiment. He was a middle-aged gentle Irishman with a wonderful sense of humour and very popular with soldiers and their families. He worked with Ann on social and welfare programs and they were known as an effective team in implementing these activities. He was also aware that Ann’s brother Joe was an ordained Roman Catholic priest with a parish in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma, U.S.A. Our padre “Father Pat” together with the officers’ wives in the Regiment arranged a pilgrimage to Rome for the Catholic soldiers and their families. He inquired if Ann and I would be interested in taking part in the project.
