When I first started researching doing this project – a book focusing on skull drawings – it became apparent immediately that the group of artists to approach should be those that make their living as tattoo artists. Having spent time in tattoo studios since I was 19, I knew that the men and women who run these establishments were often called upon to do skull art for a customer’s tattoo. It is not unusual that these artists have a special affinity toward the skull as an icon of tattoo art for decades. Like me, they think the skull is one of the best subjects for a piece of art. Unlike me, they can draw! So it became my mission to contact some artists – most of whom are tattoo artists – and ask them to help me put this book together. The response was wonderful! Artists from around the globe sent their work to be featured here. Indeed, the finished product speaks for itself. Skulls with various themes and styles populate this publication. Every skull is unique, and anyone with even a passing interest in skull art should enjoy this volume. Artists will be inspired when they view the many unique skulls contained here. Hopefully, more great skull art will be the result.
