Genine Hanns was born in Vancouver BC in 1945 and grew up on Vancouver Island with a great love and appreciation for nature and the beauty of the west coast. An accomplished acrylic artist, she paints landscapes, animals, butterflies and birds. As a connoisseur of fine education, she enjoys Greek & Roman Studies, Shakespearean Comedy and Tragedy, Jungian Psychology, Philosophy, Mysticism, and Tribal stories of all kinds; it is often found in her work. She has travelled abroad to England, Scotland, France, the Hawaiian Islands, and has toured much of America. Two grown children, a son and a daughter, both live central to her in British Columbia.
She graduated from the University of Victoria in 2005 where she completed a Double Major in Writing and English and plans an MA in Writing for the future. A prolific writer in all genres, Genine Hanns currently has four novels in progress – Armadillo Café, Lovejuice, and Courting Mayhem, all set in Victoria, and one set jointly in British Columbia and the United States, co-written with Alan Mettrick, entitled Dancing with Snakes. She has also written numerous short stories, poems and articles over the years. Much of her work has appeared in magazines and websites in Canada, America, and the United Kingdom. In 2009 she published two books of poetry; The Language of Water with Ekstasis Editions and Cross-Eyed Virgin on a Tightrope with Desert Phoenix Press. In 2012 her first book of fiction, Innocent Origins of Sorrow was published with Euphony Editions. Sacred Journeys, her third book of poetry, also published with Euphony Editions, was released in 2013.
