Mike and Harmony met in 2010. He was a principal, she the evening custodian at Parkcrest School in Kamloops, B.C. They shared childhood stories and from sharing came the idea for a book. Mike asked Harmony to draw some pictures for his story. She said she would be honoured. However, she cautioned that the images would not be what Mike expected. They weren’t. Her graphic representation of his story opened up a whole new dimension and provided the impetus for publication. Now it’s your turn. We want to hear and see your “Gumboots” story. Draw some images or tell your story in words on the blank pages provided at the back of this workbook. Begin your own storytelling journey. Express your thoughts and feelings to others. It is our belief that through sharing our stories we build meaningful relationships with each other.
